THE CENTER FOR GIFTED & TALENTED
The El Dorado School District is committed to enriching all student's educational experiences. Our Gifted and Talented (GT) department offers weekly enrichment sessions to all K-1 students across the district. We provide direct pullout GT classes for our formally identified gifted students in grades 2 through 8 to meet their unique needs.
We begin the formal identification process in the fourth quarter of first grade using a universal screener, ensuring every student has the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. This process continues through twelfth grade, allowing us to ensure the best placement for each student. By utilizing universal screening and localized norms, we strive for equitable representation across all student groups, regardless of background or level of preparation and home support.
The El Dorado School District is dedicated to challenging all students. For those who are academically advanced, we offer a variety of programs designed to stretch their abilities:
Beginning in 5th Grade: Students can enroll in honors and advanced classes to further challenge themselves.
Beginning in 7th Grade: Students have the option to take Pre-AP, Advanced Placement (AP), accelerated math, and concurrent course offerings.
These courses are open to any student willing to embrace the challenge, regardless of any previous gifted identification.

Gifted and Talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability, whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation, and creative ability.
